Russell Simmons' Art for Life teams up with Bounty



Students from New York City public school PS 165 assisted Procter & Gamble's Bounty brand along with Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation co-founder and entertainment mogul Russell Simmons, hip-hop pioneer Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons, American fashion designer and humanitarian Tory Burch, and artist Amanda Williams in unveiling the completed Building Bounty-ful Bridges 33-foot painted mural. The mural is a compilation of all the completed pieces of the traveling arts program that toured the nation sponsored by Bounty in partnership with Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation.

Through Bounty's partnership with Rush Philanthropic, children from New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C., New Orleans, and Cincinnati have collaborated in creating a large-scale painting depicting a bridge in their city and representing the "space between us." Youth groups in each city were able to showcase their creativity by being inspired by the city they live in and learn by doing the project with other children. This is in perfect sync with Bounty's mission to provide children with fun, hands-on activities that nurture their creativity and curiosity outside the classroom.

David Archuleta teams up with the Lisa Lopes Foundation



David Archuleta and Angels For A Cause (AFAC) partner with the Lisa Lopes Foundation (LLF) to help raise $10,000 to launch the new medical center in Honduras.

The Lisa Lopes Foundation medical center will serve thousands of families and children living in impoverished areas of Honduras , with health conditions among the worst in the Western Hemisphere . Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America .

An estimated 1.5 million Hondurans were without access to health care in 2008. With the highest Aids rate in Central America , the quality and access to health care are directly tied to income levels. Health care for the urban and rural poor is extremely limited.

The Lisa Lopes Foundation medical center will provide free health services, establish an ongoing rotation of dental and medical brigades that will provide on-site services, ensure that the center is prepared with the basics in dental and medical supplies and provide a comfortable working environment for Medical and Dental Brigades or anyone servicing the area and staying at the center.

Jay-z and Alicia Keys World Series Performance Rescheduled



The World Series performance featuring JAY-Z and Alicia Keys has been rescheduled to take place in Thursday's pre-game ceremonies, which airs on FOX starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

The performance was changed due to the forecast for inclement weather for Wednesday, October 28. Staging for the performance could adversely impact the field if it is wet, creating damaged and unsafe playing conditions.

Trey Songz to headline Aids Awareness Concert



On Saturday November 21, 2009 Grammy nominated and Atlantic Records recording artist Trey Songz will be headlining live in concert at the ASU Fox Theatre in San Bernardino, CA for the "READY HIV/Aids Awareness Concert" with celebrity guest appearances and performances.

Justin Timberlake will receive Heart of Hollywood in November


Justin Timberlake; Sam, Younes and David Nazarian; and Larry and Sandy Post will be honored by the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors at their annual Gala on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, California. David Banner, Twista and others hold rally and shoot video to stop Chicago Violence!



Due to the recent brutal murder of Derrion Albert, which attracted worldwide press, and the more than 150 homicides in Chicago since the beginning of the year (www.chicagobreakingnews.com) major recording artists David Banner, Rhymefest, Naledge (from Kidz In The Hall), Skooda Chose, Twista, and producer 9th Wonder have united to raise awareness of the epidemic of violence among urban youth within Chicago by organizing an Anti-Violence rally. THE HONEY COLLECTIVE is proud to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness month on October 15, 2009. Ludacris takes annual benefit dinner to Washington, DC


Multi-platinum-selling artist and actor Ludacris (real name Chris Bridges) will make a call for individuals to take an active role in community philanthropy at a National Press Club luncheon on Friday, October 23, 2009. The entertainer created the Ludacris Foundation in 2001 to increase leadership through education, healthy lifestyles and community engagement. The luncheon precedes the Foundation's annual Benefit Dinner, to be held for the first time in the nation's capital on October 24 at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center.

Ludacris previewed the topic of his speech by saying, "In today's world we have new issues and new challenges. The old way of looking at these issues and challenges have not rendered the outcomes we want. Logical thinking, while necessary is not sufficient -- we need lateral thinking (thinking outside our current frame of reference). We need a new type of leadership."

Ludacris, 27, was discovered as a young rapper by industry giants Jermaine Dupri and Timbaland. In the fall of 2000, he signed a deal with Russell Simmons' Def Jam Records and built his own label and production company, Disturbing the Peace. He has translated his success in the music industry to projects in movies and fashion. Ludacris starred as "Taj" in the feature film 2Fast 2Furious and "Anthony" in the Oscar-winning film Crash. He is currently developing a clothing line.

50 Cent adds DVD along with NEW CD


Though 50 Cent has sold nearly 30 million albums worldwide and scored eight Top 10 Hot 100 hits (including three #1s), he has not forgotten the hard times. So in these difficult economic days, the artist who debuted with Get Rich Or Die Tryin' will give something back to his fans by adding a free DVD of a full-length original movie to his much anticipated fourth album, Before I Self Destruct (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), releasing Monday, November 23, 2009. In early September, 50 released the single "Baby By Me" produced by Polow da Don (Fergie, T.I., Ludacris).

The gritty 90-minute film, also titled Before I Self Destruct, written, directed and starring Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent), is a coming of age story about an inner city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by Jackson) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother.

For a limited time, the package will also include a second DVD featuring "Two Turntables And A Microphone: The Life And Death Of Jam Master Jay," a documentary about 50 Cent's late mentor and friend. At the reunion everything seemed great for the happy couple, but unfortunately the love didn't last. Now Ray J is back and teaming up with VH1 again to find the woman of his dreams. With a new crop of gorgeous females from around the country, Ray J is determined to find love a second time around on "For The Love of Ray J 2" premiering Monday, November 2 at 9:00 PM*.

"For The Love of Ray J 2" will bring 19 beautiful single ladies to Ray J's luxurious mansion in the Hollywood Hills. With the help of VH1, Ray J will be able to see first-hand who can handle his fast-paced celebrity lifestyle. From hitting the hottest spots in LA to seeing if they can deal with the pressures of being Ray J's girl, these women will be put to the test. Every week the ladies will get a chance to convince Ray J that they can keep up with his life in the spotlight and that they will do anything "For The Love of Ray J 2."

Beginning Tuesday, October 27 fans can catch a sneak peek of the season's first episode on VH1.com - six days before the on-air premiere.

Hip Hop Summit in Houston


This week, Russell Simmons, Dr. Benjamin Chavis, the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) and Walmart will convene the national Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment entitled "Get Your Money Right" in Houston. The event will offer valuable and timely financial information from financial experts, celebrities and community leaders. Free to the public, the summit will take place Sat., Oct. 17 at the Granville M. Sawyer Auditorium on the campus of Texas Southern University, 3100 Cleburne Street, Houston, Texas 27403. Doors open at 12:00 p.m.

Financial literacy is critical as multicultural communities are disproportionately impacted by the economic downturn. For example, the unemployment rate has increased and the share of the working-age population that is employed has fallen more for immigrant Latinos. In addition, the African-American job loss exceeds one million as a result of the recession, representing more than 60 percent of the total increase in the number of those unemployed.

"The recession continues to hit the minority communities the hardest and without financial literacy, those communities will not be able to move forward to improve their standards of living," said Russell Simmons, chairman and co-founder of HSAN. "The 'Get Your Money Right' Hip-Hop Summit in Houston will be the perfect opportunity for leaders in the Hip-Hop community to share invaluable information about financial empowerment."
